Things to do in Bormio in summer and winter

Summer and winter holidays in the Magnifica Terra

There are almost no limits to the things to do in Bormio in the summer and winter seasons.

Bormio lies between the valleys of the Adda and the Frodolfo, in a splendid position at the foot of the Stelvio Pass, beneath the peaks of the Ortler and the Cevedale: this makes it a famous ski resort, as well as a renowned spa.

It is a holiday centre which offers activities for both the summer and the winter seasons, with not only walks along the trails in the Stelvio Park but also many places of interest to visit nearby.

Not to be missed are the customs-free zone of Livigno and Santa Caterina, famous with sports lovers and especially skiers.

Winter activities

Ski-mountaineering / biathlon / downhill / telemark / freeride / snow boarding → Bormio is one of Italy’s most famous ski resorts thanks to the World Cup downhill race held on the iconic Stelvio piste every year. Alpine skiing enthusiasts are welcomed by 50 km of pistes, from 3000 metres above ski level at Cima Bianca down to 1200 metres in the town. In summer, skiing is available on the glacier at the Stelvio Pass.

Cross-country skiers will enjoy the trails on the Alute plateau at Bormio, at Santa Caterina and at Isolaccia, which is also equipped for biathlon. The upper Valtellina also offers many ski-mountaineering routes.

Husky trekking / dog sledding → Take a ride in a sled pulled by man’s best friend, the dog, and experience a special thrill: you will fall in love with these wonderful animals and discover their natural instincts in the forests.

Snowshoes → enjoy the winter outdoors on a variety of trails to be explored with snowshoes on your feet.

Ice-skating / curling → Available at the Bormio ice rink, or in winter, also on the outdoor rink at Santa Caterina.
